Experience the heartbeat of Japanese drumming as Oto-Wa Taiko celebrates its 26th anniversary with a special CELEBRATION “IWAI” Concert. The dynamic program features several new pieces, some new arrangements, and old favourites. Guest artists include Ryoko Itabashi (shamisen player) and Dagaku (Ottawa’s children’s taiko group).
Oto-Wa Taiko has been bringing the sights and sounds of Japanese drumming (taiko) to public and private events and schools in Ottawa and surrounding areas since 1989. It has performed at major festivals, such as the Dragon Boat Festival, Tulip Festival and Carnival of Cultures. Oto-Wa Taiko also conducts general interest taiko workshops and taiko classes for any one interested in experiencing taiko first-hand and for potential new performers.
Guest artist Ryoko Itabashi will play several exciting Tsugaru shamisen pieces, as well as newly composed shamisen/taiko collaboration.
The Children's Japanese Drumming Group Dagaku will also be performing.
